NHBC - A new website for a new generation of home building

NHBC (the National House Building Council)’s website has long positioned the organisation as a quality pioneer, trusted insurer and agent of change for home building. But a brand refresh prompted a full audit and renewed navigation, UX, design, content strategy and site map structure.

The MTM Agency has a long-standing relationship with NHBC, collaborating with the team across various projects over the last five years, so we’re delighted to extend our relationship further, with the new website now live.

Within the first week of launch, NHBC saw a 10.4 per cent increase in clicks, and a 26.3 per cent increase in impressions, representing a significant achievement considering the change of URL structure and new site launch.

Brand elevation for Homeowners and Professionals

MTM worked closely with NHBC’s internal team on a number of core objectives which included:

  • Improving performance
  • Improving navigation and user experience for their two target audiences (builders and homeowners)
  • Increasing user engagement
  • To leverage best-in-class technology in the form of a brand new CMS
  • To improve content editors experience

It was also important to ensure that the solution we implemented was futureproof for ongoing development to maximise investment.

Undertaking an in-depth analysis of the current site performance and user engagement, and facilitating workshops with key stakeholders, we did a deep dive into the data to better understand which areas of the site were currently not fit for purpose, and where we could be making improvements in content, functionality or user journeys for both the target audiences, and the content-editors managing the website.

We approached the project in three steps, with the planning, research and designs at the forefront, leading to a full technical scope and specification to facilitate the build. The challenge was to find a solution that would work to manage multiple sub-brands and the different styling for each of those.

How we did it

Based on research and insights from the types of content and users, we built a headless technology site using Kontent AI with strong API capabilities, scalability, and robust collaboration tools. It’s particularly suited for organisations looking to deliver content across multiple platforms and devices.

Initial results

Within the first week we saw a 25.08 per cent increase in active users, 21.28 per cent increase in new users and 16.07 per cent increase in engagement. Alongside a 10.4 per cent increase in clicks, and a 26.3 per cent increase in impressions, we’re confident that the new site will continue to deliver results for NHBC.
