INEOS Grenadiers Cycling Team - A New Website for a New Era

The INEOS Grenadiers Cycling Team website has been pedalling since 2019, serving the team and its fans well over the last five years. However, it was time to deliver a fresh site with optimal performance and flexibility for future adaptations, giving the fans a solid base from which to support their team along with a hub of information to absorb and engage with.

The MTM Agency has had a long-standing relationship with INEOS, collaborating with the team across various projects over the last 12 years. We’ve partnered specifically with the Grenadiers Cycling Team since 2022, and we’re excited to see the new website now live.

Elevating the digital hub for the team and its fans

MTM worked closely with INEOS’ internal team on a number of core objectives which included:

  • Improving performance

  • Increasing user engagement (which was previously very low)

  • To be more fan focused.

It was also important to ensure that the solution we implemented was futureproof for ongoing development to maximise investment.

Undertaking an in-depth analysis of the current site performance and how users were engaging with the site, we also researched the professional cycling landscape as well as fan sites for other sports in order to be able to make recommendations based on data and research. This data-driven approach runs through everything MTM does with all its client partners, to ensure an informed strategy, providing the best results.

We approached the project in two halves with the planning, research and designs at the forefront, leading to a full technical scope and specification to facilitate the build.

How we did it

Based on findings from the types of content and users, we built a headless technology site using Umbraco, an open source .net solution. Utilising a headless CMS provides optimal performance for users and aids future-proofing elements such as scalability, as front and back end changes can be made independently. This is an investment that will serve them well in the longer term, which was an important part of our overall objective.

In addition, we ensured an API integration with First Cycling to pull through all live cycling data, so users can view data in real time, with no manual additions required from the admin.
